Having spent several years continuing to build my personal practice and training as a British Wheel of Yoga teacher, I now enjoy being able to safely share the pleasures and benefits of the wonderful practice that is Hatha Yoga with both beginner and experienced yoga practitioners in and around Newcastle upon Tyne.
My main interest in both my own practice and in teaching is to develop core strength and learn to deepen the connection between the mind, body and breath. The practice can be slow and deep or more dynamic; sometimes using flowing sequences, other times holding individual postures for longer. In my classes, I encourage everyone to work at a level and pace that is comfortable, modifying postures and movements to create a highly individual practice.
I was in my mid-fourties when I truly started to appreciate the benefits of a regular yoga practice. My mobility was limited following surgery on an injured knee and I was keen to do anything I could to get “back to normal”. I committed to a regular Hatha Yoga class at my local gym and never looked back. My aim had been improved strength and flexibility but what I came away with was so much more! I left each class infused with a sense of feeling good – in a non-specific, holistic way; more relaxed, more open, more at ease with both myself and life around me.
Since then, yoga has become a way of life, – I practiced more and studied more about both the physical asana practice and it’s philosophical background. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn, and the more keenly I wanted to share what I was learning with the people around me.
I am a fully qualified and insured Yoga Therapist and Teacher.
My initial teacher training was with the British Wheel of Yoga through the Level 4 Teaching Diploma .
Early on in my training I became fascinated in particular in the many ways yoga practices can support healing of physical, mental and emotional imbalances. I continued to develop this interest and have been privileged to be able to undertake advanced training with some wonderful internationally renowned yoga teachers and therapists including:
- Judith Hanson Lasater (Relax and Renew® Restorative Yoga Level 1 and 2
- Bo Forbes (Yoga for Emotional Balance certification)
- As well as workshops and intensives with Donna Fahri, Doug Keller, Judy Gudmestad, Leslie Howard and Uma Dinsmore-Tuli
I qualified as a Yoga Therapist with Yoga Campus in London in early 2017 where I remain in contact with their amazing team of Yoga Therapists for my continued professional development and supervision.
My intention through 2018 is to carry on with this amazing journey of self-development and discovery, learning from all the lovely people I am honoured to teach and be taught by, whilst deepening professional knowledge and experience particularly in the field of Yoga as Therapy.
