Having spent several years continuing to build my personal practice and training as a British Wheel of Yoga teacher, I now enjoy being able to safely share the pleasures and benefits of the wonderful practice that is Hatha Yoga with both beginner and experienced yoga practitioners in and around Newcastle upon Tyne.
My main interest in both my own practice and in teaching is to develop core strength and learn to deepen the connection between the mind, body and breath. The practice can be slow and deep or more dynamic; sometimes using flowing sequences, other times holding individual postures for longer. In my classes, I encourage everyone to work at a level and pace that is comfortable, modifying postures and movements to create a highly individual practice.
I was in my mid-fourties when I truly started to appreciate the benefits of a regular yoga practice. My mobility was limited following surgery on an injured knee and I was keen to do anything I could to get “back to normal”. I committed to a regular Hatha Yoga class at my local gym and never looked back. My aim had been improved strength and flexibility but what I came away with was so much more! I left each class infused with a sense of feeling good – in a non-specific, holistic way; more relaxed, more open, more at ease with both myself and life around me.
Since then, yoga has become a way of life, – I practiced more and studied more about both the physical asana practice and it’s philosophical background. The more I learned, the more I wanted to learn, and the more keenly I wanted to share what I was learning with the people around me.
I am a fully qualified and insured Yoga Teacher having completed both the Foundation Course and the 500 hour equivalent Level 4 Teaching Diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga.
I also hold a certificate in Yoga for Emotional Balance through the leading US Clinical Psychologist, Yoga Teacher and Integrative Yoga Therapist, Bo Forbes.
My advanced training has included Relax and Renew Restorative Yoga Level 1 and 2 training with Judith Hanson Lasater who is often described as the global guru of Restorative Yoga and a huge inspiration to students and teachers of yoga throughout the world.
In addition, I have had the privilege of undertaking Advanced Yoga Teaching and Therapy training with other internationally renowned teachers including:
• Donna Fahri
• Doug Keller
• Judy Gudmestad
I am currently studying for the highly regarded Yoga Therapy Diploma qualification with Yoga Campus in London, where I am excited to be continuing my development as a yoga practitioner, teacher and therapist.
My intention through 2016 is to continue this amazing journey of self-development and discovery, learning from all the lovely people I am honoured to teach and be taught by, whilst developing my knowledge in particular in the Restorative Yoga, and Yoga as Therapy fields.
