About Yoga Therapy
In Yoga Therapy sessions, I personalise yoga techniques to meet your current needs and interests. Mostly, I work on a one to one basis, and at times in small groups of people with similar interests. It is a holistic mind-body approach for restoring balance and adaptive functioning to the physical (musculoskeletal), physiological (digestion, respiration, cardiovascular, endocrine and immune) and mental/emotional systems.
I use techniques from the ancient yoga traditions to:
- Reduce symptoms of illness or injury
- Facilitate more functional breath and movement patterns
- Reduce physical and mental suffering
- Improve quality of life and increase feelings of wellness.
- Enhance positive coping strategies
Yoga therapy may be particularly helpful to you if you are experiencing feelings of emotional stress, fatigue, anxiety, overwhelm or depression either on their own or in conjunction with chronic conditions of pain or other illness, or when you simply feel you would like to work on increasing your strength or flexibility with a tailored and holistic yoga practice that is personalised for you.
No previous experience of yoga is necessary, – yoga therapy is tailored to you individual to fit with your requirements.
My starting point is always to work with you to define your objectives for the session or sessions; and to determine how we might work together. As a guideline, I recommend a course of 5 yoga therapy sessions spread over a couple of months to give us time to explore and tailor different practices, but it all depends on the nature of your interest and the time you feel you would like to dedicate to the practice.
